Adil quits as MD of Diageo

Mumbai, March 5: Asif Adil, managing director of Diageo India, has resigned.

Roland Abella will be the new MD of Diageo India. Abella was involved in Diageo’s businesses in West Asia and North Africa. Earlier, he was a commercial director for West Asia and India.

The announcement comes at a time when Diageo — the world’s largest liquor company — is involved in talks with Vijay Mallya to pick up a stake in United Spirits. John Pollaers, president of Diageo Asia Pacific, said Adil had left the business to pursue new horizons.

“India represents a tremendous growth opportunity for Diageo, particularly for our global priority brands — Johnnie Walker and Smirnoff. Over the last two years, we have taken significant strides in developing our brand presence in India. Roland’s appointment underlines the importance of the Indian business to Diageo,” Pollaers said.
