‘I don’t want to commit’

Mahie Gill, who is being compared to Tabu for her power-packed performance in her debut film Dev D, reveals why she is single…

I would have loved to debut with: Abhay Deol. I had a crush on him since I saw Socha Na Tha.

My zodiac sign: I am a Sagittarian.

The Sagittarian quality that defines me: I love making friends and I love travelling.

My birth place: Chandigarh.

My family: I belong to a very educated family. My mom is a lecturer of zoology. She is a Ph.D in anthropology. My father was the deputy economic adviser to the Punjab government. I have two brothers. They both live in the US.

My assets: My nature. I treat everyone equally. I like to give respect and get it in return.

I’m single because: I don’t want to commit (laughs).

My first crush: Was one of my classmates in the third standard. He was some Batra, a very cute guy.

My sex appeal: I don’t think I have sex appeal. People tell me that they like my eyes, my face. Some even tell me I have got a good figure!

The turn-on in a man: I like guys who are very witty.

A turn-off: Bad behaviour.

My friends: I have lots. Anurag (Kashyap, director of Dev D) is a good friend. Sameep Kang (an actor from Punjab) and Manpreet, a schoolteacher. Also, actress Richa Bhattacharya (her husband Dibyendu played Chunnilal in Dev D). I first met Anurag at a party at Richa and Dibyendu’s house.

Two qualities I admire in people: Honesty and a good sense of humour.

My favourite actors: Aamir Khan and Brad Pitt.

One film that I can watch again and again: Lamhe.

My favourite Bollywood actresses: I love Sridevi, Mumtaz, Tabu and Kangana.

A fictional character I identify with: I feel I am a little bit of Betty and a little bit of Veronica from the Archie comics.

I unwind: By sleeping. I also love spending time with my close friends.

If I was not an actor I would be: A DOP (director of photography).

My most cherished possession: My mother.

If I can change one thing about myself: I am very hairy, like my dad. So I have to rush to the parlour every other day!

I am possessive about: I love my things and my friends but I am not possessive about them.

My favourite destination in India and the world: I have been to Ireland for two days; I want to go there again. I love the mountains. I want to go to New Zealand and Egypt. In India, I love Kerala. I like the beaches and the people of Kerala.

My favourite song: Tera mera pyaar amar/ Phir kyun mujhko lagta hai darr... It is from Asli Naqli picturised on the 1960s heroine Sadhana.

As a dancer: I am not a typical dancer. It’s like... mujhe chhod do chaabi laga ke and I will do a good job. I can’t do choreographed moves.
