Food poison claims 2

Alipurduar, Feb. 22: Two persons died and 18 fell ill yesterday after taking food at a wedding feast at Parokata in Samuktala on Thursday.

Susmita Roy, 14, and Tushki Mohanta, 10, died in the Alipurduar hospital. Assistant chief medical officer of health of Alipurduar Debasish Roy said the villagers were taken ill because of food poisoning. He has sent a medical team to the village.


Foundation

Cooch Behar: Bengal public works minister Khiti Goswami laid the foundation stone of a bridge at Sagardighi Ghat, about 40km from Cooch Behar town, on Sunday afternoon. Goswami said the 660-metre long bridge would be constructed at a cost of Rs 65 crore.


Rape arrest

Islampur: A 19-year-old man was arrested by Chopra police on Saturday for allegedly raping a minor girl in his neighbourhood in Moulani.


Houses

Siliguri: Bengal minister for urban development Asok Bhattacharya laid the foundation stone for a housing project at Karangaguri near here on Sunday. West Bengal Housing Board will construct 448 houses for high, medium and low income groups.


MUV seized

Siliguri: Siliguri traffic police seized a Toyota Innova with fake registration number and arrested Sukhbir Subba, who was at the wheels, on Sunday. The police said Subba had bought the vehicle from Anupam Barua, a resident of Bhaktinagar, who had a record of vehicle lifting
