Chopper report in court

Act I: A VIP took a chopper ride to reach Morabadi, only 7km from the city airport

Act II: A politician did not even think twice to hitch a ride to Tupudana, which is even closer than Morabadi

Cost: Rs 34.23 crore

The accountant-general has confirmed that the lone government chopper was misused by politicians and VIPs at the expense of public money between April 2005 and November 2008.

The accountant-general, after prodding from Jharkhand High Court, furnished a report on Thursday stating that the relatives of chief ministers and governors have also availed of the chopper facilities flouting rules.

However, he has not mentioned the names of the VIPs. Instead, he has recommended a thorough investigation by a specialised agency.

The report mentions that there are prima facie evidences indicating the misuse of both government chopper and chartered ones. It said that the exact quantum of expenditure cannot be calculated as relevant details have not been provided by the government, but the civil aviation department has pegged the expenses at Rs 34.23 crore from April 2005 to March 2008.
