Arnab lifts trophy

Hailakandi, Feb. 15: Arnab Dutta emerged champion defeating Tushar Jain 6-2 in an all-Silchar final to win the under-16 men’s singles of the two-day North East Tennis meet organised by Silchar Tennis Club.

The final lasted for 35 minutes with Dutta having had to pull out all stops to win the title even though the scoreline would suggest that it was a one-sided victory. Most of the final line-up was decided by afternoon. The finals will be later played tonight.

Lalrinawama will play against Laldrinthuanga of Mizoram in the men’s final. In the first semi-final, Lalrinawama defeated Lalluanga 9-2, while in the second semi-final, Laldrinthuanga defeated Lalmuniwaria by 9-6 game.

In the men’s doubles final, the Mizoram pair John and Lalrinawama will play against another Mizoram duo —Lalmasuana and Lalrunmawaria.

The 35-45 age group final will be an all-Silchar affair with Subashis Dutta Gupta and Ranjit Paul pair taking on Kiranmoy Das and Biresh Das duo.

Altogether 80 players participated in this meet from Mizoram, Silchar, Guwahati and from the Assam Rifles. The meet got under way yesterday.
