Passion flower blooms on canvas
- Over 400 children take part in painting competition organised by Rose Society

Ranchi, Feb. 15: Schoolchildren today gave flight to their imagination to come up with beautiful paintings of roses at the competition held on Ranchi Club premises.

Rose Society of Ranchi organised the competition where three special children of Deepshika also exhibited their talent.

The organisers received an overwhelming number of entries this year. The competition witnessed around 400 children from over 20 schools of the city take part. They painted their canvas with bright colours depicting the beautiful flower.

The participants were divided into five categories — Class III, IV to VII, VIII to IX, X to XII while the fifth group was for the mentally challenged children.

The five groups were given different themes but with rose as the subject. Some were asked to paint small roses, others were give rose and a bud, scenery or rose arrangements as the theme.

The colours and strokes of the children gave the judges a hard time to select the winners and finally the organisers decided to declare the results on March 15.

Rose Society secretary H.P. Behl said they were unable to organise the competition during the winter rose show last month as school examinations ere scheduled then.

“As we organise the competition for children to develop a love for plants and flowers we postponed the competition,” Behl said.

Hazel Davis, an organisers of the competition, said result of rose competition would be declared during the 75th spring rose show schedule to be held on March 15. “Every year, we organise such competitions to select the best talents and bring them to the fore,” she added.

A student of St Thomas School Manish Kumar, who was busy drawing rose and a bud, said: “I enjoy drawing roses. I love roses because of its smell. I have a garden in my house where there are many yellow, pink and red roses. Whenever I get time I sit in my garden and draw them.

The practice at home helped me today.
