Kathikund ripples in Nakti

Dumka, Feb. 15: Taking cue from Kathikund villagers, who took the warpath to protect their ancestral land from private industrial houses, residents of other parts of Dumka have started similar agitations against land grab.

Residents of Nakti — a village situated on Dumka-Pakur Road and is barely 6km from the Dumka district headquarters — are protesting against the setting up of a home guard training centre.

The Dumka district administration has decided to construct the centre at Dagh No. 245 in Nakhi mouza and villagers fear that their land will be taken away for the project.

Hence, they have clamped a public curfew and have set up barriers at entry points of the village to keep outsiders at bay. Contractors assigned to construct the centre and labourers, who had gone to the village to begin the construction work, were not allowed by the residents to enter the village. The villagers have also conducted a signature campaign and sent an application to the district administration, requesting it not to acquire their plots.
