Big leap

She has had enough of playing second fiddle to heroes. Rachana Banerjee is now set to lead the cast in Partha Sarathi Joardar’s upcoming film Kalir Arjun.

Rachana (Kali) plays a doting sister to younger brother Arjun (played by newcomer Raj). All’s well with the siblings till Kali falls for rich man Sanjay (Indrajit).

“After their marriage, Kali’s in-laws start scheming how to get rid of her but their devious plans fall through. The whole film revolves around this. Kalir Arjun has a woman-oriented subject. Since I have worked with Rituparna (Sengupta) in a couple of films recently, I thought of casting Rachana in Kalir Arjun. I had directed Rachana in her first Bengali film Raja Shaheb in 2001,” says Joardar, whose Megh Brishtir Khela starring Rituparna and Shaheb Chatterjee is eyeing a March release.
