Trade delegation to visit Vietnam

Guwahati: A delegation of businessmen and government officials from the eight northeastern states will visit Vietnam next week to promote trade and investment. The delegation comprising officials from the DoNER ministry and the eight states will also take part in the three-day Asean North East India Investment and Trade Opportunities Summit, to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from Thursday. The delegation will discuss trade and investment in the agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and IT sectors with their Vietnamese counterparts at the event.

Rebels killed

Imphal: Troops of the Assam Rifles shot dead two suspected militants in Thoubal and Chandel districts late on Saturday night in separate encounters.

Convict caught

Shillong: Resmond Shylla, a 26-year-old murder convict, who escaped from police custody while on the way from Nongstoin to Shillong, was handed over to the police by the villagers of Nongdiwah on Saturday.

Activist held

Kohima: Seven persons, one of them an NSCN (I-M) activist, were arrested along with arms and ammunition by Dimapur police from a house at Lotha Colony in Dimapur on Saturday night.

Accident

Kokrajhar: Twenty eight-year-old Pradip Das of Kajalgaon died in a road accident on NH-31 at Kajalgaon in Chirang district on Saturday. Das was hit by a speeding vehicle.

Girl hangs self

Dhubri: Priyanka Saha, 14, committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Paglahat under Golokganj police station of Dhubri district in the wee hours of Sunday.
