7-wicket victory for Rural men

Imphal, Feb. 8: The rural development and panchayati raj department obtained a seven-wicket win against the agriculture and horticulture department in the 20th Manipur Civil Services Cricket Championship played at Oriental College and Model School ground today.

The championship, which got under way today, has eight teams in the fray for the champion’s title, with the education, electricity, rural development and panchayati raj and agriculture and horticulture departments clustered in Group A.

The Group B teams are accountant general, public work departments, primary health and engineering department and revenue department.

Winning the toss, agriculture and horticulture decided to bat first in the 30-over match and managed to put up 140 runs for nine wickets. In reply, rural development and panchayati raj reached the target, scoring 142 runs from 19.4 overs, losing 3 wickets.

The electricity department will take on the education department tomorrow.

K. Anand of the winning team was declared Man of the Match for his 4-wicket haul and 25-run contribution today.
