Kid kills 5-year-old
New Delhi, Feb. 2 (PTI): A five-year-old boy was allegedly stabbed to death by an eight-year-old friend yesterday at a house in south Delhi after a quarrel over a ball while playing.
Miraz, 5, had thrown the plastic ball downstairs after an argument. Angry over his behaviour, his friend beat him up and then picked up a knife lying nearby and stabbed him below the neck.
Miraz was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. He died because of excessive bleeding after a vein in the neck was ruptured in the attack. The older boy was arrested and produced before a juvenile court.
Miraz, the only child of Shiraz Khan, who owns a small saloon, and Hasina, was a Class I student. The body was handed over to his parents after the autopsy.
Quilt death
Dehra Dun (PTI): A boy died after being trapped under a heap of quilts at a temple on Sunday. Ajay Sonkar, 8, had fallen asleep under a quilt at the temple on Saturday night. On Sunday morning, temple employees kept a pile of quilts on the one covering the boy without realising he was lying under it. The boy was found dead when employees of the agency that provided the quilts came to take them away.
CRPF chief
New Delhi (PTI): Rajasthan director-general of police A.S. Gill will take charge as the new director-general of CRPF from March 1 after V.K. Joshi retires. Gill will remain in office till January 31 next year.
IAEA pact
Mumbai (PTI): India will sign a key inspection agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna on Monday. The atomic energy department said this was a step to place 14 reactors under IAEA safeguards and pave the way for utilisation of the already-ordered uranium from French power major AREVA.
Italy attack
Rome (AP): Italian police have arrested three persons for allegedly setting on fire an Indian immigrant in a town near Rome. The 35-year-old is in hospital with severe burns, but his life is not in danger.
