Nagaon defeat Goalpara

Guwahati, Jan. 29: Hosts Nagaon bagged six points defeating Goalapara by 10 wickets on the second day of their two-day senior inter-district cricket tournament elite group league encounter at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon today.

Resuming at the overnight 190 for five, in reply to Goalpara’s first innings total of 129, Nagaon made 222 runs in their first innings losing all their wickets in 62.3 overs this morning. Goalpara were bundled out for 104 in 37.2 overs in the second innings. Set to chase only 15 runs in the second innings, Nagaon opener Amit Sinha scored it facing only six balls.

On Wednesday, Danish Shyamal topscored for Nagaon with a steady 78, while Tauhid Ali Talukdar contributed 23.

Biju Kar of Goalpara notched up four wickets for 29 runs and Debo Nath claimed three for 70. Naba Nath scalped two for 36.

In Goalpara’s second innings, Biju Kar remained not out on 18 and another 18-run knock came off the bat of Naba Nath.

Spinner Bichitra Baruah was the Nagaon wrecker-in-chief, having notched up six wickets for 40 runs. Amit Sinha chipped in with two for 20.

ACA move

The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has directed its affiliated district units to submit details about the outstation professional recruits fielded in their squads in the Senior Inter-district Cricket Tournament that is under way.
