Fog hits flights

New Delhi, Jan. 13 (PTI): Over 30 flights were delayed today morning as dense fog enveloped Delhi after a week’s respite. At least eight others were diverted to Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Lucknow from Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Flights did not take off from 7 to 9 in the morning and operations normalised after 11.30am.

Gujarat DGP

New Delhi (PTI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of P.C. Pande as the Gujarat police chief, saying he was going to retire shortly. An NGO had claimed that several complaints relating to post-Godhra riots were pending against Pande.

Uphaar plea

New Delhi (PTI): The Ansal brothers, Sushil and Gopal, on Tuesday filed two separate petitions against a Delhi High Court judgment upholding their conviction in the Uphaar fire, which killed 59 people in 1997. A bench headed by Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan will hear both on January 23.

Ex-President

New Delhi (PTI): The condition of former President R. Venkataraman, who was admitted to Army Hospital Research and Referral after he complained of dehydration, is now stable, administrative head Brigadier A.K. Sharma said.

Power theft

Bangalore (PTI): Criminal cases have been filed for alleged power theft against three private service providers in Karnataka who maintain communication towers for Airtel. The vigilance wing found the service providers were stealing power bypassing the meter installed to energise the transmitter.
