Cop dies after car falls into lake

Shillong: A police constable was killed and five others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into the Umiam lake in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday afternoon, while trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle. According to police, the constable, A. D. Wahlang, died on the spot after the vehicle, which was going to Nongpoh from Shillong, fell into the lake.

Derailed

Guwahati: Eight wagons and the engine of a goods train, which was carrying soybean oil, derailed between Dhupdhara and Boko stations in Kamrup district around 5am on Sunday. Nobody was injured in the accident.

Rio plea

Kohima: The Nagaland government on Sunday expressed its dismay over the delay in finding a solution to the Naga problem even after 11 years of ceasefire between the Centre and the NSCN (I-M).

Arrested

Dibrugarh: Police arrested Sudama Rai from Paltan Bazar on Sunday with 1kg of opium, which he was had brought from Arunachal Pradesh to smuggle into Bihar.

Guwahati: Police on Sunday arrested National Democratic Front of Boroland cadre Dhanesh Kumar Boro from Barbari in Baksa district.
