George Telegraph, Punjab cops win

Dibrugarh, Jan. 8: The semi-final line-up for the 4th OIL Challenge Gold Cup Football Tournament currently under way at the Nehru Maidan in Duliajan has been drawn.

In the first semi-final to be played on Friday, hosts Oil India Football Club will take on BSF, Jalandhar while George Telegraph, Calcutta will play holders Punjab Police in the second semi-final on Saturday. The final match will be played on Monday.

In the third quarter-final match played this morning, Punjab Police defeated Lajong Football Club, Shillong by a solitary goal.

After a barren first half, Rohit Singh scored the all-important goal for Punjab Police in the 55th minute.

Rohit capitalised on a well-placed minus by fellow striker Parminder Singh from the right flank to score the goal through a beautiful header.

In the last quarter-final played this afternoon, George Telegraph defeated a spirited ASEB 2-1. George Telegraph’s Nigerian recruit Arun Kole scored both the goals in the 39th and 68th minutes.
