Recovery agents arrested

New Delhi, Jan. 6 (PTI): Four alleged Standard Chartered recovery agents have been arrested for threatening a university official over dues he settled four years ago, police said.

One of the agents posed as a policeman and another as a lawyer to intimidate the director of a renowned university, joint commissioner of police, special cell, P.N. Aggarwal, said today. He did not give the director’s name.

The arrests followed a complaint by the director, who said he had been receiving threatening calls for the past two months asking him to pay his credit card dues.

Binttoo Pal, said to be the supervisor of the recovery firm, Innovatives Solutions Ltd in Delhi’s Subzi Mandi, was picked up with three associates. They have been sent to judicial custody till January 19.

Aggarwal said StanChart had hired the firm as their recovery agents. StanChart officials were not available for comment.
