Seven hurt in college clash

Seven students of Behala College were injured in a clash between SFI and Trinamul Congress Chhatra Parishad supporters on Monday. The clash started after the Parishad supporters demanded the cancellation of the governing body election held on Monday as a case was pending in court. Some teachers who opposed the election gheraoed principal Swapan Sur till late in the night.

Racing bus injures four

Four persons at a tea stall were injured after a bus on route 57 lost control while racing a minibus near Mahatma Gandhi Road in Howrah on Monday afternoon. The bus also rammed into four motorcycles before coming to a halt in front of the stall. Residents took the injured to hospital. The driver fled.

Death on tracks

Mohammad Arfan, 38, was injured after falling from a Shantipur local while it was approaching Naihati on Monday. The resident of Bansberia was taken to Kanchrapara Railway Hospital and later shifted to a BSF medical unit, where he died.

Body found

Bapi Bhattacharya, 22, a resident of Kamardanga in Howrah, was found dead around 5pm on Monday. Bapi’s brother Malay, a student of Class V, found him lying on the floor and his sister-in-law Sagarika, 24, leaving the room. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Family members said the couple, who married a year ago, quarrelled frequently. Sagarika, a resident of central Calcutta, is absconding.

Rail schedule

Train services on the Sealdah-Diamond Harbour section of the Eastern Railway will be disrupted at night for a month from Tuesday, an official said. The tracks will be blocked from midnight to 3.40am between Baruipur and Diamond Harbour stations for repairs. The SD 141 Diamond Harbour-Sealdah local will remain cancelled while the SD-144 Sealdah-Diamond Harbour local will terminate at Baruipur. The SD 101 Diamond Harbour-Sealdah local will leave Diamond Harbour at 3.45am, instead of 3am.
