Cosmetic cures

I have oily skin which is prone to pimples, so I don not use soap at all. Instead, I clean my face with Oriflame’s Tea Tree face wash. In winter, I use a cold cream from L’Oreal. I also go for a Shehnaz pearl facial once in a while. Since I have dull hair, I go for a hair spa once a month. And I also use shampoo and conditoner meant for dull hair from L’Oreal.

I would like to be armed for winter in every way. Please give me some tips for my skin and hair with which I can battle this cold harsh season.

While washing your face, do not use soap. If you have chapped lips, keep a chapstick handy with you at all times and apply on lips whenever they feel dry.

Don’t forget to drink lots of water, fruit juices and salads and greens packed with vitamins as they will see you through the cool winter months.

Take warm and short showers. The longer the shower and the hotter the water you strip your skin of oils. So make sure the shower is warm and short. When the temperature changes, so should your beauty routine. Your hair and skin react differently to cooler climates, so you need to redefine your regime to get the results your want to see.

To combat dry, flaky skin, switch to a heavier moisturising cream to add much needed hydration. Lock in moisture by doing this while your face is still wet.

Use eye cream at night to combat dryness. If you do this on a regular basis, you’ll probably notice a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

Not only does your skin dry out when the weather turns cold, so does your hair. Pay special attention to your hair by going for a deep conditioner if you notice it drying out. It only needs to be washed twice a week. For a quick fix, apply a leave-in-conditioner for extra moisture.

Sloughing away dead cells is the first step to pampering your dry skin. That’s because the clearer the skin, the deeper a moisturiser can penetrate. It’s always a good idea to exfoliate gently. Take time to moisturise your whole body right after a shower, then pat your skin dry.

For daily protection, use a moisturiser with sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 15.
