Aussies will bounce back soon: John

Calcutta: Former Australia coach John Buchanan feels problem in the top order and an inexperienced bowling line-up are responsible for Australia’s loss in the ongoing series against South Africa.

He also believes that Team India, under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, have the potential to be the No. 1 team.

“The Australian top order has not been able to play to their potential and an inexperienced bowling attack has added to their problems,” Buchanan, said at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Friday evening.

Buchanan, the Kolkata Knight Riders advisor-in-charge, is here to conduct a three-day selection trial at the Eden from Monday.

The trial would select players from a pool of 40, including former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin’s son Mohammed Ashaduddin.

Asked to identify the problems plaguing Australian, Buchanan said: “It’s the responsibility of the Australian selectors and the players.”

He, however, appeared hopeful of a quick revival. “I feel they will soon be back where they were,” Buchanan remarked.

Talking about Mathew Hayden’s future, he said: “I don’t think he should think about retiring now.”

Elaborating on his plans for the ensuing IPL, Buchanan said: “Lots of thoughts are there… We need to sit together and chalk it out…

“Apart from international players, we’d also like to stress on local talent.”
