Girl’s kin to take legal action

Jamshedpur, Jan. 2: Relatives of 10-year-old girl who succumbed to burns due to a fogging machine accident would lodge a case against the accused driver and officials of Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC).

Peeved by the attitude of Ulidih police, the relatives of deceased Komal Kumari did not lodge a complaint against the officials named by the victim’s father.

On December 31, BJP had threatened to launch an agitation against MNAC soon.

“We have decided to postpone our agitation as the victim’s family has decided to launch a legal action against the culprits,” said BJP president of Mango unit Vikas Singh.

The uncle of Komal, Om Prkash they want justice and so have decided to knock on the door of court. He said they have consulted their lawyer and would lodge the case soon.

“As the police would not take any step against the accused, we have to take recourse to legal action. We went to the police station several times but the officers did not lodge an FIR based on our complaint. We informed about the incident to Ulidih police station and recorded our statement at Bistupur police station after reaching Tata Main Hospital,” said Prakash.

The complainant and his father have identified Shamshul Hoda as operator of the machine. A complaint has also been lodged against the unidentified driver of the tempo, on which the machine was mounted. Both of them fled the spot when the residents of the area tried to catch them.

The relatives claimed that they are not looking forward to any compensation from East Singhbhum district administration but want justice.

Ulidih police claimed that they are looking into the matter and would take appropriate action when they get the entire report.

“The statement of victim’s relative were taken by Bistupur police and it has not yet reached us. We are expecting it within a day or two after which we would decide on the course of action. We are also awaiting the post-mortem report of the victim. As police officers it is our duty to take action against against the culprits, if found guilty,” said officer in charge of Ulidih police station Rajesh Sinha.

He denied the allegations that police are trying to shield the culprits of the incident. Komal succumbed to injuries on December 29 at Tata Main Hospital’s burn care unit during her treatment.
