TVNL sets record in power production

Ranchi, Jan. 2: There’s good news for the state on the power front.

Tenughat Vidyut Nigam Limited (TVNL), the state’s premier thermal power generating unit, declared that it had recorded the highest ever production of 279.98 million units in December 2008 with an efficiency or a plant load factor (PLF) of 89.6 per cent.

“This is the highest-ever production by TVNL during the 13 years of its existence,” TVNL general manager S.P. Choudhury told The Telegraph.

In January 2007, 275.83 million units were recorded. And now after two years, TVNL has clocked a plant load or an efficiency factor of 75 per cent. With timely preventive maintenance and management, the efficiency index has leaped from 75 to 89.6 per cent.

Set up in 1995 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the then Bihar government, TVNL is equipped with two units, each with an installed capacity of 210 MW. Figures reveal that on any given day, both the two units at TVNL have been contributing an average of 400MW to 410MW every day to the state grid. The entire power generated by TVNL is bought by the Jharkhand State Electricity Board.

The TVNL general manager pointed out that following the record feat, all employees would be entitled to a reward.
