Ranchi, Dec. 26: As part of the traffic week celebrations, the district administration has issued a directive to the school authorities to paint their buses yellow.
The move has been taken by the administration to give a colour uniformity to school buses, so that during bandhs, the buses could be easily identified and exempted from the strike.
Although many schools are already plying yellow buses, a few are still sticking to colours such as blue, green and white. Such buses are hired ones.
Cambrian Public School principal G.P. Singh said: “We have received a letter from district administration instructing us to paint all our school buses yellow.”
“This would give a particular identity to school buses. Moreover, it will also be easy to make way for the buses during traffic jams. Students have a harrowing time when their school buses get held up in traffic snarls,” Singh added.
Singh further pointed out that during bandhs, the agitators often stop school buses, thus causing harassment to the children. This will stop once these buses are identified and bandh enforcers know which are school buses.
Traffic SP Dadanjee Sharma said they were also on a drive to check the use of pressure and multi-tone horns in school buses as they create noise pollution.
“The check is being done in other vehicles, too. So far, we have collected Rs 80,000 as fine during the drives in the past four to five days,” Sharma said. Deputy commissioner Rajiv Aarun Ekka was not available for comments.
