Andrew Strauss became the second Englishman, after Marcus Trescothick, to score a century in each innings and follow it up with a duck in the next Test.

Pietersen became the fourth England captain to score a century in India. The others to do so are ER Dexter 126 .. (Kanpur 1961-62), AR Lewis 125 (Kanpur 1972-73) and AW Greig 103 (Calcutta 1976-77).

Pietersen recorded his 15th Test hundred and fifth of the year 2008. It is his second hundred as captain.
