It was The Telegraph Weddings that brought together designers Radhika Singhi and Sayantan Sarkar. Collaborating on ideas for the project soon evolved into long-term plans as the duo launched the boutique Threads last month at 89 Ballygunge Place.

The look: “We did not want it to look like a shop. Rather, we wanted it to look like a studio,” says Sayantan. Wood and beige is the colour code. Stone flooring, a glass water feature, rough wood on the changing room door, cane lantern and a charkha on one of the niches give the store a fun feel.

The collection: It is a mix of pret and couture that is on offer at this south Calcutta address. Simple jersey dresses share rack space with concept saris. “Most of our bridal wear is for the out-of-denim brides,” explains Sayantan. So fusion it is. Gowns have been given a sari silhouette, with an emphasis on texture and surface embellishments. Pleats, frills, layers and gathers abound. For the grooms there are dressy sherwanis. Silks, georgettes, chiffon and organza pieces come in peaches, powder blues, off-whites, reds and greys.

Since the duo will be focussing on their bridal range, Threads will be stocking pret designs from a German label Goya. You can also shop for jewellery. Golecha’s Jewels of Jaipur will be retailing from Threads.

The boutique is open through the week between 10am and 7pm. Prices start at Rs 5,000 for the pret collection and go up to Rs 35,000 for the bridal range.

t2 pick: A flowing grey organza gown priced at Rs 35,000.
