Campus security
South 24-Parganas police met representatives of over 60 educational institutions in Alipore to review security measures on their premises. The cops suggested a string of measures, such as issuing photo IDs to students and staff, banning vehicles on campus, installing CCTV cameras and equipping guards with metal detectors.
Todi plea
High court Chief Justice S.S. Nijjar has assigned Justice D.P. Sengupta to hear the bail plea of Ashok Todi. Two days back, two judges of a high court division bench had held contradictory opinions on granting bail to the prime accused in the Rizwanur case and the matter was sent to the chief justice.
Road death
Subrata Das, 19, was killed in Thakurpukur on Wednesday while riding pillion on a friend’s motorcycle, which rammed into a CSTC bus. Das was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead. Das’s friend fled. The bus driver later surrendered.
