star struck

Sara and the sax

Sara, the walrus, has been in the spotlight at the Istanbul Dolphinarium in Istanbul, Turkey, for playing the saxophone. This young, whiskered, marine mammal has been trained by Sergiy, a Russian national, to play the musical notes with ease and panache. Sara clutches the brass instrument between her flippers to play a note. Sergiy has also taught her to pose with one of her flippers under her chin, thus appearing to look bored to entertain her visitors. She has also become a star attraction owing to her talent for mimicking humans. Sara can entertain in other ways too. An expert with balls and hoops, Sara knows how to catch a rose thrown at her lying face down, reports The Daily Telegraph. Wonder what the others in the walrus fraternity have to say about Sara’s many talents.

Dance delight

The vidya mandir hall in Calcutta was recently witness to an all-India inter-school dance competition. A part of Disney Channel’s My School Rocks campaign, it will cover about 1,000 schools across the country. Schools from Calcutta will be pitted against those from seven other cities including Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana and Delhi. The final winners will be selected on the basis of all-India votes and judge Shiamak Davar’s evaluation. They will also feature in a Disney Channel music video choreographed by Davar.
