MBA student shot at in Mango

Jamshedpur, Dec. 5: In a pointer to the deteriorating law and order situation here, an MBA student was shot at by two youths in Mango this morning. Police said the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. The assailants are absconding.

Amit Choudhury (22), studying in a college in Pune, had come home on a vacation 10 days ago. Around 10.30am, he and his friends were chatting outside his residence in the Sai Suraj Ashram area when two motorbike-borne youths — Arun Kumar and Lallu — accosted them. They grabbed Amit and started beating him. When he tried to resist, Lallu pulled out a pistol and fired a shot which hit Amit on his left wrist. As he fell, the youths fled the scene.

Friends and local residents rushed Amit to MGM Medical College & Hospital. He was later shifted to Tata Main Hospital. Talking to The Telegraph from the hospital, the MBA student said he had no clue why he was attacked. “They came on a bike, beat me up, fired and fled. I am here on a holiday to attend a family wedding. I had no dispute with Arun and Lallu,” he said.

The inspector of Mango police station, L.N. Gupta, said the victim was yet to make an official statement on the firing. “Amit knew the assailants very well but the reason for the attack remains a mystery,” he said, adding that Arun, was a students’ union leader.
