Two killed in gang rivalry

Two persons were killed in gang rivalry on the outskirts of the city on Friday.

In Rajarhat Sector II, 19-year-old Ajijul Molla, alias Santu, was shot dead at point-blank range around 4pm, possibly by his rivals in the building material supply business.

Around 6.30pm, a group of criminals put a bullet through the head of extortionist Vhikira Mullick, 50, in Howrah’s Tandel Bagan, a year after his wife and 23-year-old son were killed in the same way.

In Rajarhat, police said Molla was riding a motorcycle with a friend when three men stopped them, fired three rounds from an improvised revolver and fled. Molla died on the spot and a bullet grazed one of his friends’ hand.

“The three have been identified as Sukumar Mondal, 45, Jadu, 35, and Khude, 32. All of them are involved in the building material and labour supply business,” said an officer.

In Howrah, police superintendent Niraj Kumar Singh said: “Vhikira’s murder is the outcome of a gang rivalry. There are eight cases of murder, robbery and extortion against him. He was on bail.”
