Imphal, Dec. 2: K. Prasanta bagged the first gold medal in the 50-metre race in the 1st Manipur State Games for the Physically Challenged that got under way at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here today.
The two-day event, organised by the Paralympic Committee of Manipur in connection with World Disabled Day tomorrow, was formally inaugurated by Khetrigao legislator Th. Nandakishore Singh.
Altogether 134 physically challenged persons, including 31 girls, are participating in the meet.
The athletes will compete in archery, badminton, powerlifting and various other events.
In the 50-metre run for senior boys, K. Prasanta won the gold in 9.28 seconds while A. Shantanu took the silver in 9.35 seconds and Chandramani Singh claimed the bronze (10.27 seconds). Siraj Ahmed, K. Gobin and K. Joychandra made it to the top six.
