Physics can to be fun too!

Jamshedpur, Dec. 2: Physics can be exciting and so believe authorities at Jamshedpur Women’s College.

The science exhibition-cum-demonstration organised by the physics department of Jamshedpur Women’s College aimed to tell students about the excitement involved in physics.

This annual event, which was organised for the first time, motivated junior students to take up physics as a subject rather than get worried about it.

“At the time of choosing streams, most students ignore science, especially physics, because they are scared of it. They develop a hatred for the subject. The exhibition, which is being organised by the girls of the department, would not only motivate them but also encourage other students to develop a liking for the subject,” said Deepta Arti Pandey, a lecturer in the physics department.

Around 55 girls from the department took part in the exhibition wherein they displayed about 18 models on various aspects of the subject — magnetic effect, logic, refraction of light, conversion of energy and application of Bernoulli’s principle.

Students not only exhibited the models but also gave a detailed explanation on the themes.

“We wait for the this time of the year, as students get a chance to showcase their understanding of the subject and also develop communication skills while explaining the model to visitors,” said Supriya Kumari, a first-year student of physics, who explained the magnetic effect.

Almost all students of various departments witnessed the models at the exhibition.

“After I saw the working models at the exhibition I might change my decision and study science. Physics could be fun too,” said Aarti Singh, an Intermediate student at the college.
