Arunachal Pradesh beefs up vigil

Itanagar, Nov. 30: Arunachal Pradesh has been put under a security blanket, with the deployment of additional security forces in and around Itanagar and Naharlagun, to foil any possible bid of militants who use the state as a hideout.

Alarmed at the recent happenings in the country and the serial blasts that rocked several parts of Assam and Tripura recently, Arunachal Pradesh police have beefed up vigil in the state.

The top brass of the district administration and the police held a meeting recently.

The Papum Pare district superintendent of police, Hibu Tamang, deputy commissioner Bidol Tayeng and other officials emphasised the tightening up of security in Itanagar. Several issues like sprucing up security in the wake of influx of illegal migrants, militant movement and criminal activities like killing, kidnapping and extortion bids came up for discussion at the meeting.

The influx of illegal Bangladeshi migrants, militant activities in troubled Tirap, Changlang and Lohit districts bordering Myanmar, Nagaland and Assam, also featured during the discussions.

Papum Pare SP Hibu Tamang today said additional police forces from the Police Training Centre at Banderdewa had been deployed in all sensitive areas in and around Itanagar to thwart any attempts of militants.

“A security cordon has been thrown around Banderdewa, Balijan, Holongi, Gumto and Kimin — all five checkgates in Papum Pare district bordering Assam,” Tamang said.
