Imphal, Nov 30: I. Nilakumar Singh gave Manipur Police Sports Club 2-1 goals victory over Phoudel Youth Club in the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament played at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

In another match, Manipur Brothers Sporting Union edged out Kuki Sporting Club, Lambulane, by 3-1 goals.

Phoudel Youth Club initially gave Manipur Police a run for their money, but the cops caught up with their game in the latter part of the match.

The Phoudel team found their goal in the 11th minute of the game as Md Riyas Khan provided a clean pass from the right to Md Shahidur Rahaman, who beat police keeper Ingobi Singh to net the ball.

The Manipur cops came back hard and launched a barrage of attacks to keep the Phoudel keeper, Ksh. Naoba Singh, busy for a while, but the crisis was averted.

In the 37th minute of the game, however, Phoudel defender W. Tamphajao Singh committed a handball inside the penalty box and referee L. Yaima Singh awarded Manipur Police a penalty.

I. Nilakumar Singh took the kick but keeper Ksh. Naoba Singh intercepted the ball. However, it was not a clean save and the ball rebounded. Nilakumar saw his chance and rushed in to shoot home the equaliser.

In the second half, the Manipur Police team continued with their attacks and in the 57th minute of play, M. Somachandra Singh, running along the right, sent a perfect cross to Nilakumar in front of the goalmouth, and he made no mistake in netting the ball for the lead.

Phoudel Youth Club switched to attack mode but a strong police defence saw their efforts fail as Manipur Police walked off with a victory under their belt.

Manipur Brothers Sporting Union came up with an impressive victory over Kuki Sporting Club by 3-1 goals today. The first half was an evenly fought affair but Manipur Brothers player L. Boipu Doungel managed to net in a goal to take the lead in the first half.

In the second half, Kuki Sporting Club tried to force back into the game but they wasted some opportunities.

Manipur Brothers player N. Dhananjoy Singh came up with the second goal in the 58th minute.

In the 80th minute of the game, O. Inaocha Singh netted the third goal for Manipur Brothers.

As things almost came to a close for the Kuki Sporting Club, they made the last lunge with substitute Gouminlun Kipgen making a free kick from the penalty edge and Paojangam Haokip coming up with lone goal in the 86th minute.
