SPSB wins archery challenge

Jamshedpur, Nov. 29: Steel Plants Sports Board (SPSB) emerged overall champion at the 31st Junior National Archery Championship, which concluded at JRD Tata Sports Complex today.

Jharkhand had to be satisfied with the runner-up slot. SPSB finished with 24 medals — 10 gold, nine silver and five bronze, while Jharkhand claimed 27 — nine gold, 14 silver and four bronze during the four-day championship. The championship witnessed a record participation of 22 states.

SPSB, which comprises archers mostly from Jharkhand, slotted in team championship titles in both boys’ and girls’ recurve Olympic round today.

The quartet of Rajib Basumatary, A. Raju, Pawan Khalko and Atanu Das of SPBS slotted in the gold with 210 points (out of 240) to pocket the title in the boys’ category even as the girls from the same outfit — Rimil Biruly, V. Pranitha, Pratima Boro and Bidisha Chakraborty — won the honours with 203 points.

The Jharkhand outfit took the second slot with 206 points, while Andhra Pradesh took the third slot with 218 points.
