Doubles title for Rupesh, Sunil
City boy Rupesh Roy won the men’s doubles title partnering Sunil Kumar Sepaeya in the ITF Men’s Futures at the Jaidip Mukerjea Tennis Academy on Friday. They defeated second seeds David Savic of Serbia and Nathan Thompson of the US 7-6, 6-0. Both men’s singles semi-finals ended prematurely as players retired. Thompson conceded the first semi-final against Savic due to severe cramps. Savic was leading 6-1, 6-7 (2-7), 2-1 at that point of time. National champion Vishnu Vardhan retired from the second semi-final due to a back strain when top-seed Alexander Satschko was leading 3-0 in the first set.
Mumbai win
Mumbai defeated North-East 5-1 on Friday in the Bengal Hockey Association Centenary All India six-a-side Indoor Hockey Tournament being held here.
In the exhibition matches, Mohammedan Sporting beat Mohun Bagan 3-2, while Punjab beat Bengal 4-3.
Tennis meet
Sanil Jagtiani won the boys’ under-10 title on Friday in the 44th Floodlit Tennis Tournament organised by The Saturday Club.
He defeated Debjit Chakraborty 6-0, 7-5. Sukrit Guha won the under-14 title, defeating Sreedhar Gaggar 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1).
