Manipur cops down Posterior

Imphal, Nov. 28: P. Adeva’s extra time golden goal ensured a Manipur Police Sports Club triumph as the team defeated a formidable Posterior Hockey Academy, Manipur, outfit by 3-2 goals in the final of the 2nd G. Khelchandra Men’s Open Hockey Tournament.

With this win, Manipur Police Sports Club walked away with the winner’s trophy and Rs 10,000, while Posterior Hockey Academy collected the runners-up trophy and Rs 5,000 as prize.

Locked 2-2 in regulation hours, the match was decided by a golden goal, which was scored during the next 15 minutes of extra time. Manipur Police found the net in seven-and-a-half minutes of extra time.

Earlier in the game, Manipur Police Sports Club ruled the first half with a two-goal lead. However, Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur fought back strongly in the second half to neutralise the score.

S. Tarun Singh of Manipur Police came up with the first field goal in the13th minute of play and P. Adeva Singh consolidated the lead in the27th minute.

The Manipur Police team missed three absolute golden chances in the first half. Later, in the second half, it was the turn of the spirited Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur to turn the tide in their favour with some good moves.

The Posterior team got its first goal from Amarjit with a fine flick resulting from a penalty corner in the 36th minute. Kh. Rabikanta Singh made no mistake in finding the equaliser 10 minutes later. The Posterior men made similar blunders later and missed three chances. The game was decided by a golden goal in extra time.
