Youth boys floor J-Sontum

Imphal, Nov. 27: Youth Development Organisation today edged past J-Sontum Youth Club, Sadar Hills, by a solitary goal in a highly-charged game to move into the final round of the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament.

Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation also sent Citizen Club packing 2-1 in another match today to sail into the final round.

The match between Youth Development Organisation and J-Songtum Youth Club was a high-voltage one as the two teams played all out in search of the all-important goal.

The charm faded somewhat with a number of bookings by referee A. Boren Singh.

Though the match was poised on an even keel, Youth Development Organisation was more aggressive in the first half. However, both the teams failed to score.

In the second half, J-Songtum Youth Club’s Kamcha was shown a yellow card and a little later, Leina, too, was booked with a yellow card for booting L. Henery Singh.

Kamcha was shown another yellow card when he defied the referee and kicked the ball, showing arrogance. He had to leave the field.

Youth Development Organisation finally scored in the 80th minute.

L. Gogocha Singh making a right flank run made a goalline pass to L. Henery Singh who tapped the ball and adjusted his footing in the goalmouth to net the ball.

In the other match, Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation got the better of Citizen Club to snatch a win by 2-1 goals today.

There was equal opportunity for both the teams but they frittered away many chances.

Tugging along goalless for a good part of the first half, Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation finally got the breakthrough in the 34th minute of the play after A. Anand Singh scored to lead the first half.

In the second half, the Citizen Club played well and G. Leibakchao proved to be lucky as he found the equaliser in the 77th minute of the game.

Inching closer to the final whistle, the game looked all set for a penalty shootout but the persistent efforts of Dimapur Road Athletic Organisation paid off after Man Bahadur scored the winning goal in the 90th minute of the match.
