Infant dies after mom jumps
Siliguri, Nov. 26: An eight-day-old girl died after her mother Chandana Roy jumped with her into a well near their home at Purba Dhantala last night. Firemen from Siliguri rushed to the spot and brought them out. By then the baby had died.
The mother was taken to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Police said Chandana was “mentally disturbed” and had tried to commit suicide. The infant’s body has been sent for post-mortem.
Huts razed
Islampur: Four hutments were gutted in a fire that broke out in a kitchen at Digabana on Tuesday night. Two fire engines from Islampur doused the flames.
Four injured
Islampur: Four persons were injured after an Islampur-bound Maruti collided with a truck at Sonapur on Tuesday night. The injured were taken to Islampur Subdivisional Hospital. The driver fled with the vehicle.
BSF clash
Cooch Behar : One person was injured and hospitalised when villagers clashed with the BSF at Krishnapur on Wednesday. Devendra Prakash Singh, the Cooch Behar police chief, said the BSF had entered the village in search of cattle smugglers. The villagers demanded that they go back. When the BSF refused, a clash ensued.
