Special trains for long trips

Guwahati, Nov. 26: With an aim to provide the most convenient and comfortable journey, the Northeast Frontier Railway has run a record number of 1,916 special trains since January 1 this year.

“This means that the NFR is running more than five special trains everyday during this year,” the chief public relations officer of NF Railway, Samir Goswami, said.

Among the special trains are a total of 105 long-distance special trains, including some special Rajdhani Express too.

Long-distance trains are meant for passengers bound for Mumbai, Calcutta, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Patna-Darbhanga and Yesvantpur.

For the convenience of the commuters, a total of 1,764 local special trains are being run on different directions across the region.

In addition, there are 47 special trains run on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.

According to Goswami, there are various reasons, including heavy floods in different parts of the country, for running a record number of special trains this time.

He said many trains bound for South India from the Northeast remained cancelled from July to September because of heavy floods in different parts of the country.
