Guwahati, Nov. 26: Jharkhand posted a thumping eight-wicket victory against hosts Assam on the second day of their three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) East Zone league match at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon today.
Chasing Assam’s first innings total of 123, the visitors resumed at the overnight 83 for seven and lost all their wickets for 145 in 48 overs.
In the second innings, Jharkhand spinners Ronit Singh and Dominik Rex bundled out the home boys for 103 in 43 overs.
Needing only 82 runs for an outright victory, the visitors romped home losing only two wickets in 31.1 overs.
This morning, overnight not out batsmen Kumar Debrata and Rex shared an eighth wicket partnership of 42 runs to take the team’s total to 119 before Rex (16) was bowled off a Deepjyoti Goswami delivery. However, Debrata, who scored 57 sharing a 26-run ninth wicket stand with tail-ender Suraj Singh Deo (3) to pile up 145 for the team.
Assam’s second innings started on a shaky note as they lost quick wickets with medium pacer Monu Kumar and left-arm spinner Rex accounting for the top order and Ronit Singh ripping apart the middle order for a haul of five for 37. Rex scalped three for 27 and Kumar two for 18.
In their second essay, Vishal Singh topscored for Jharkhand with an unbeaten 32 and opener Pappu Kumar Singh contributed 30. Shravan Kumar remained not out on 10.
