Rupesh shines

City boy Rupesh Roy won both his singles and doubles matches at the ITF Men’s Futures here on Tuesday. He beat compatriot P. Gunneswaran 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round in singles. He reached the quarter finals of the doubles competition, pairing up with Sunil Kumar Sipayea. The Indian pair defeated the German pairing of Mario Eckhardt and Pirmin Haenle.

India’s Purav Raja upset fifth seed Marc-Andre Stratling of Germany 7-5, 6-4. Seventh seed Syrym Abdukhalikov of Kazakhstan was also shown the door by another Indian, Rohan Gajjar. Gajjar won 6-3, 6-4.

Kalighat win

Kalighat beat BNR by a massive 219 runs in the 2-day A.N. Ghosh Trophy match at the Jadavpur University ground on Tuesday. In another match Eastern Railways beat DKS by four wickets.

Kalighat 477/5. BNR 258 (Avik Chowdhury 3/50). Kalighat won by 219 runs.

DKS 258/9. Eastern Railways 259/6 (Kanchan Maity 138). Eastern Railways won by 4 wkts.

Hockey meet

Bengal and Karnataka won their respective matches in the BHA Centenary All India six-a-side Indoor Hockey tournament here on Tuesday. While Bengal defeated North East 5-1, Karnataka won 3-2 against Mumbai. Punjab got full points against Jharkhand.

Sidharth Tantia aced the 13th hole at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club on November 13.
