Calcutta, Nov. 24: Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi will not be invited to the public reception the state government has arranged for football legend Diego Maradona on December 6, sports minister Subhas Chakraborty said.

The chief minister, half a dozen of his cabinet colleagues and three Union ministers will be at the programme.

“I’m not inviting the governor,” sports minister Subhas Chakraborty said today.

Asked whether the invitation was not being extended because of differences bet- ween the government and the governor on Nandigram and Singur, Chakraborty said: “I don’t invite the governor for any major sports event.”

Tickets for the event, priced at Rs 50, Rs 100 and Rs 200, will be sold from November 28.

Maradona, now the Argentina coach, will land in Calcutta around 1.15am on December 5.
