Jamshedpur, Nov. 23: A workshop was organised at deputy commissioner’s office today to chart out a plan for the upcoming anti-AIDS campaign in the district. Named Zindagi Zindabad, the campaign will be organised by National AIDS Control Organisation (Naco) from December 1 to March 31 in six district of Jharkhand — Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Hazaribagh, Sahebgunj, Garhwa and Giridih.
Unicef would be organising the programme in East Singhbhum and the officials said the campaign would be linked with the Integrated Village Planning Programme (IVPP) that is being conducted in East Singhbhum.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the workshop, East Singhbhum deputy development commissioner Sitaram Bari said the district administration would fully support the campaign.
Unicef officials said information, education and communication (IEC) van would be used for sensitising the villagers on the ways of preventing the deadly disease. Besides, health camps and street plays would also be arranged.
“We have decided to take the help of IVPP volunteers of each blocks in East Singhbhum. The IVPP is our project and we want to make full use of the resources available during this campaign,” said Robert Anthony, the Unicef co-ordinater for the programme.
He also said the IEC van would start its journey from December 3 onwards. The van would visit all the nine blocks during the campaign. Street play troupes would also accompany the IEC van for staging shows in villages of the district.
“The youth volunteers and co-ordinaters that are part of the Village Planning Team in the district would work as motivaters during the campaign,” said A. Singh, the secretary of NGO, Devnet.
The NGO is the nodal agency for implementation of IVPP in East Singhbhum.
Block-level administrative and police officials were also present at the workshop. The administration plans to take their help in successful organisation of the campaign in the district.
