Tourism waiver

New Delhi, Nov. 21 (PTI): The tourism ministry is considering waiving the visa fee for foreigners to tackle an impending slowdown in tourist arrivals.

According to data, India would lose $175 million if the fee of $35 was waived. Tourism officials will discuss the move with the external affairs and home ministries, officials said.

Goa rape

Panaji (PTI): Bombay High Court on Friday termed police investigations into the case of a German girl allegedly raped by Goa education minister Atanasio Monserratte’s son as neither “just nor fair”. “We have no hesitation in observing that the investigation is neither just nor fair,” the court said.

Property vigil

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi police have arrested over 200 people for defacing public property as part of their drive against the violation of the model code of conduct ahead of the Assembly polls. The police have cracked down on unauthorised use of public buildings and government property for campaigning.

Hospital gang

Chennai (PTI): A seven-member gang, which tried to sell the Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Puducherry at Rs 1,000 crore with forged documents, has been arrested. Police laid a trap after a complaint was lodged. They asked the complainant to negotiate a deal with the gang and arrested the frauds.

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has asked PepsiCo India to remove the picture of a snow-capped peak on the packaged water bottles of Aquafina as it could mislead buyers. The court said it would give the impression that the product contained mountain water, which it did not.

Plea to Raj

Mumbai (PTI): Over 5,000 ground-handling staff of 14 companies at the Mumbai airport have approached the Raj Thackeray-led MNS, seeking help from the party leader to protect their jobs. They feel they will looser their jobs as a result of the privatisation drive at airports.
