Imphal, Nov. 19: Athletic Brothers’ Association defeated Khaorei United Club, Ukhrul by 2-0 goals to move into the next round of the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh Football Tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

In another match, Youth Social Welfare Association, Utlou drubbed District Sports Association Chandel XI 3-0.

In the match between Athletic Brothers Association and Khaorei United Club, the former took the lead in the 10th minute when Kamneithang Khongsai netted the first goal.

In the second half, Athletic Brothers Association played an attacking game and took the action into the opponent’s territory.

They were awarded a penalty when S. Kishan Singh was brought down in the danger zone by an Ukhrul defender in the 48th minute of the game. Helkhohao Vaiphei took the shot and made no mistake in finding the net.

In the other match, Youth Social Welfare Association displayed some good co-ordination and improved their gameplan to defeat DSA Chandel XI by 3-0 goals today.

The DSA Chandel men played well, but they failed to capitalise on the chances and let themselves down today.
