Bose stands by Buddha on security

Balurghat, Nov. 16: The CPM state secretary, Biman Bose, said there was no need at the moment to question the manner in which chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was running the home department.

He was referring to recent Maoist-linked incidents, including the one in which his convoy was targeted near Salboni earlier this month.

Bose was here to attend the state conference of the Bangiya Saksharata Prasar Samity at Gnagarampur today. Taking questions at the venue, Bose stood by the chief minister when the security loopholes were pointed out.

As far as the Lalgarh tribal unrest was concerned, Bose said the state government was relying on the local administration to tackle the situation. “If the talks that are going on at the local level fall through, something will be done at the state level,” he said.

“There is a move by some parties to create a rift between the tribals and the government. This will not be tolerated as we do not want any confrontation with them,” said Bose. “The Maoists in West Midnapore, Purulia and Bankura are trying to mislead the tribals in these districts by telling them to demand merger with Jharkhand. Those who are working for the Jharkhand party during the day are with the Maoists after sunset.”

Later, Bose told a gathering in Gangarampur that the movements like the ones for Gorkhaland and Greater Cooch Behar had but one aim: To shatter the very fabric of India and to stop development.
