Waiver for farmers
Ahmednagar, Nov. 15 (PTI): Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has said that 26 lakh farmers, who had not received loan waiver even after clearing their debts, would get the benefits within a month.
The government had distributed Rs 1,500 crore as loan waiver in the last four years, Deshmukh said. An insurance cover would be given to women self-help groups he added.
Black bucks
New Delhi (PTI): A research institute in Hyderabad has adopted a method of artificial insemination to increase the population of the endangered black buck. The Laboratory for Conservation of Endangered Species has succeeded in making two black bucks conceive and deliver two fawns recently.
Power cut
Calcutta: City residents went without electricity for over an hour on Saturday evening because of a fault in the Kolaghat plant. Its five 210MW units were generating nearly 850MW when the lines got snapped. All units were shut down but hope to restart them by Sunday, a power department official said.
Father hunt
Mumbai (PTI): Bombay High Court has directed Nashik police to launch a manhunt across India to trace a man who allegedly has gone missing with his 18-month-old child. Nanak Avtar Singh had been ordered to hand over the child to his estranged wife.
Godown fire
Amravati (PTI): Fire at a godown in Amravati destroyed audit documents belonging to the education deputy directors office, fire officials said on Saturday. The cause of the blaze is not been known.
Life for rape
Anand, Gujarat (PTI): A local court sentenced a man to life imprisonment on Saturday for raping an 11-year-old girl at a village in Anand district. The court has slapped a fine of Rs 300 on Tribhuvan Bhoy and said the sentence would be extended by a month if he failed to pay it.
