Guwahati traffic cop in blast net

Guwahati/Dhubri, Nov. 15: City police this evening picked up a traffic constable, Anowar Hussain, in connection with the October 30 serial blasts case. He is being held by Hatigaon police here.

Official sources said the motorcycle used in the Bongaigaon blast was kept at Hussain’s residence in the capital a few days prior to the blasts.

Hussain, who is attached to Dispur police station, came under the scanner after police picked up two bike-lifters from the Chaygaon area of Guwahati few days back. The two — Moinul Haque and Mintu Ali — had stolen the motorcycle used in the Bongaigaon blast. Mintu Ali, sources said, is a relative of Anowar Hussain. The duo had kept the motorcycle at Hussain’s Hatigaon residence.

The bike belonged to one Biswa Gohain, who had lodged a complaint about stolen motorcycle at Dispur police station. Gohain was picked up but released soon after.

Meanwhile, one Bishal Basumatary, president of the ISBT Labour Union, was picked up by the Garchuk police on Wednesday in connection with the city blasts, and is being interrogated at Kokrajhar.

Three NDFB cadres picked up from the Baksa camp have been released since there was no evidence against them, sources said.

The police have also released Rahul Patowary, who was picked up on Friday from Barpeta in connection with the Assam blasts.
