Jaggi: Jostle for victory

Jamshedpur, Nov. 13: Ishank Jaggi allowed his broad willow do the talking today.
The century against Haryana in the Ranji (plate Group A) tie at Lalli (Rohtak) has not only boosted his confidence by several notches but, more importantly, has put him on a solid platform.
The right-hander struck a solid 101 (216 balls, 308 minutes, 13x4), but could not help his team escape the ignominy of innings defeat.
“I should have stayed a bit longer in the crease and helped my team’s cause. But things proved otherwise. I would have been very happy had I managed to save the match,” Jaggi told The Telegraph over phone from Lalli.
Jaggi, who’ll turn 20 in January, said the century has given him loads of confidence for the matches ahead.
“I am very confident. I’m looking to our next match against Goa. I’m sure I'll come good,” he said, adding runs in domestic tournaments was crucial for him as he was looking to make a solid impact on the national scene.
The skinny city-based lad also came good with the bat in the first match against Jammu and Kashmir, scoring 58 and an unbeaten 71. “Yes, those innings helped a lot,” he added. Jaggi was included in the Ranji squad last season but was not fielded. He, however, played in the Ranji one-day tournaments and emerged as the second top-scorer in the east zone.
“At last Jaggi has proved that he’s a responsible batsman. It was also good that he was not blooded in the big league last season. Proper grooming has certainly held Jaggi in good stead,” a former Bihar Ranji skipper said.
