Rohan Banerjee injured

Bengal batsman Bengal Rohan Banerjee was admitted to a hospital after he was hit on his neck by a Dibyendu Chakrabory shot while fielding at forward short leg during second day of the practice match between CAB A and CAB B at the Eden on Wednesday.

Doctors said Rohan was out of danger. The selection committee has named Arindam Ghosh as a replacement for Rohan in the Bengal squad. Bengal will play Madhya Pradesh in their first Ranji Trophy Plate Group match in Gwalior from Monday.

Meanwhile, the CAB A beat CAB B by six runs in the practise match which was cut short from a three-dayer to two-dayer.

BRIEF SCORES: CAB A 317; CAB B 311 (Dibyendu Chakraborty 120). CAB B won by 6 runs.

Jayojit to lead

The CAB junior selection committee has announced a 18-member squad for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy (under-19) one-day all India tournament to be played in Ahmedabad from Monday. Jayojit Basu is the captain.

IFA meeting

The Indian Football Association on Wednesday, after a meeting with the four city clubs — East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting and United SC — have decided to set up a four-member committee to oversee performances of players of their respective clubs in the ongoing I-League. It was learnt that IFA secretary Utpal Ganguly will be in the committee besides one former footballer, one physio and a doctor.

ITF meet

About 200 participants from various countries will participate in the ensuing $50,000 ITF Women’s Challenger organised by the Bengal Tennis Association and the NRE at the BTA Complex, Salt Lake from November 17 till November 20.

Eight in lead

Laxman R.R., Suvrajit Saha, Himanshu Sharma, Girinath P.D.S., Saptarshi Roy, Somak Palit, Arindam Mukherjee and N.S. Bhattacharjee are in the lead after Round III of the 8th WBCA Fide rated chess meet at the Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra on Wednesday.
