Hospital ransack
A mob ransacked Peerless Hospital, on the EM Bypass, on Tuesday night after the death of a patient. Relatives and friends of Babulal Mondal, 35, alleged that the hospital authorities had handed them an inflated bill. They hit hospital guards with iron rods. Seven persons, including the officer-in-charge of East Jadavpur police station, Parag Ranjan Ghosh, were injured. The hospital superintendent said about 150 men damaged computers and furniture. Seven persons were arrested. The trouble-makers were from a club in Sonarpur, where Mondal lived, said olice.
Airport death
Uttam Sahu, a 45-year-old employee of Air India, suffered a cardiac arrest while working in the arrival lounge of the city airport’s international terminal on Tuesday night. An airport doctor pronounced him dead.
Run over
Himadri Hazra, a 26-year-old MBA student, fell off the footboard of a private bus and was crushed under its wheels at Agarpara on Tuesday night.
Robbery
A dozen armed dacoits looted goods worth more than Rs 12 lakh from a cold store and an electrical factory in Baruipur on Tuesday night. Four persons were injured. Two of them were admitted to hospital.
Explosion
Four members of a family were injured after a LPG cylinder exploded in a Bishnupur house on Wednesday evening. They were admitted to SSKM Hospital.
Film festival
Cars would not be allowed to park on AJC Bose Road during the Kolkata Film Festival, from November 10 to 17. Visitors will have to instead park their vehicles on Gokhale Road. Entry to Nandan will be restricted on the day of inauguration.
Factory fire
A fire broke out in a styrofoam factory at Mahestala on Tuesday night. Five tenders took nearly an hour to control the blaze.
Boy drowns
Bishal Sinha, 12, drowned in the Hooghly near Dakshineswar temple on Wednesday morning. He was visiting the temple with his mother.
